Tooth Extractions

Simple extractions are performed on teeth that are visible in the mouth, usually under local anesthesia, and require only the use of instruments to grasp the visible portion of the tooth. Typically, the tooth is lifted with an elevator and rocked back and forth with dental forceps until the periodontal ligament is sufficiently broken and the supporting alveolar bone is sufficiently dilated to make the tooth loose enough for removal.

Surgical extractions remove teeth that are not easily accessible, either because they have erupted under the gum line or because they have not erupted completely. Surgical extractions almost always require an incision. During a surgical extraction, the doctor may lift the soft tissues covering the tooth and bone and also use a drill or osteotome to remove some of the overlying jawbone tissue.

Reason for a surgical extraction:

  • Broken Teeth
  • Fragile or Cracked Tooth
  • Teeth With Long / Curved Roots
  • Long and Large Roots

For all dental treatments we use local anesthesia so you will be comfortable during the procedure.
