  • Red, swollen, or tender gums or other pain in your mouth
  • Bleeding while brushing, flossing, or eating hard food
  • Gums that are receding or pulling away from the teeth, causing the teeth to look longer than before
  • Loose or separating teeth
  • Pus between your gums and teeth
  • Sores in your mouth
  • Persistent bad breath
  • A change in the way your teeth fit together when you bite
  • A change in the fit of partial denture

Gum disease types

Gingivitis

The mildest form of periodontal disease is gingivitis. Gums grow red, swollen, and bleed readily as a result of this condition. At this point, there is usually little to no discomfort. Gingivitis, fortunately, can be reversed with professional treatment and appropriate at-home dental hygiene.

Periodontitis

Gingivitis can progress to periodontitis if left untreated. Plaque can spread and build below the gum line over time. Toxins created by plaque bacteria irritate the gums and trigger a persistent inflammatory reaction in which the body effectively turns on itself, breaking down and destroying the tissues and bone that support the teeth. Gums separate from teeth, causing diseased pockets between teeth and gums. The pockets deepen as the disease develops, and more gum tissue and bone are lost. Teeth might become loose over time and fall out or need to be extracted.

Periodontitis is usually diagnosed using a stage and grade system. At Aqua Dental Studio following a comprehensive examination of your specific condition, we will recommend adequate treatment. Schedule a dental examination today to keep good oral health.
