Root Canal Therapy

Root canals are a gentle, effective way to relieve deep tooth pain and save a tooth that would otherwise need to be removed. At Aqua Dental Studio, we make the experience calm, comfortable, and far easier than most people expect. Modern techniques and strong local anesthetic mean you can finally feel relief — not more pain.

Why you might need a root canal

A root canal becomes necessary when the soft tissue inside the tooth (the pulp) becomes infected or inflamed. This can happen from deep decay, cracks, trauma, or an old filling that has failed. When the pulp is irritated, the pressure builds inside the tooth and causes the classic “throbbing” pain people associate with root canals.

What the procedure is like

Despite its reputation, a root canal is a straightforward, comfortable procedure. After the tooth is fully numb, we gently remove the infected tissue, clean the inside of the tooth, and seal it to prevent future problems. Most patients are surprised by how quick and easy it feels — many even fall asleep during treatment.

After your root canal

Once the infection is gone, the tooth is no longer painful. Most patients return to normal activities the same day. Because the tooth is now hollow and more fragile, we typically recommend a crown afterward to protect it and restore full strength.

Saving your natural tooth matters

Keeping your natural tooth is almost always the best option. A root canal allows you to avoid extraction, maintain your bite, and prevent shifting or bone loss. It’s a long‑term solution that preserves both comfort and function.

No. Modern root canals are done with strong local anesthetic, so the procedure feels similar to getting a filling. Most patients are surprised by how easy and comfortable it is.

Common signs include lingering sensitivity, deep tooth pain, swelling, or pain when biting. The only way to know for sure is with an exam and X‑ray, which lets us see whether the nerve is infected.

Most root canals take about an hour, depending on the tooth and the level of infection. Many patients return to normal activities the same day.

You may feel mild soreness for a day or two, but most people feel significantly better because the infection is gone. Over‑the‑counter pain relief is usually all that’s needed.

In most cases, yes. Once the infection is removed, the tooth becomes more fragile. A crown protects it and restores full strength so you can chew normally again.
